The BAU is material across the world's largest trade fair for architecture, materials and systems, held every two years in January (both in the odd years) in the New Munich Trade Fair instead. The first event was in 1964. The organizer is Messe München GmbH .

Dates and numbers

BAU 2009 took place in January 2009 on an exhibition area of ​​180,000 m². There were 1,776 exhibitors from 43 countries. With 212,035 visitors, including more than 37,000 from abroad, the fair set a record. The proportion of trade visitors was 95%. In addition to what the exhibitors had to offer, there was an extensive supporting program with numerous events, such as B. Forums and special shows.

For the first time at BAU 2011, an outdoor area was also occupied, on which u. a. the solar house of the Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences , which won second place at the Solar Decathlon Europe in Madrid, was presented to the general public for the first time. Once again, more professionals visited the fair (+ 12%; around 238,000 visitors in total).

At BAU 2013, 2,028 exhibitors from 41 countries presented their products and services on 183,000 m² of gross exhibition space. Over 232,900 visitors came on the days of the fair, around 60,100 of them from abroad.

The 21st BAU took place in Munich from 19.-24. January 2015. 2015 exhibitors from 42 countries presented their exhibits on an exhibition area of ​​180,000 m². Over 251,000 visitors came on the days of the fair.

Long night of architecture

The Long Night of Architecture took place for the first time in Munich as part of BAU 2011 . Architecturally interesting buildings were accessible to the public in Munich, sometimes accompanied by guided tours by the architects. The BMW Welt , the Allianz Arena and the Munich Highlight Towers could be visited.

The Bau 2015 also ended with the Long Night of Architecture: In Munich, architectural sights opened their doors to visitors, including the Munich Architecture Gallery, the Brandhorst Museum and the Maximilianeum .

Marketing Campaign

Special motifs have been developed for the fair for several events. Futuristic animal or plant motifs that are supposed to symbolize the 'future of building'. The campaign has already been awarded the GWA Profi twice by the GWA ( General Association of Communication Agencies ) .
