Solar Decathlon Europe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Solar Decathlon Europe is a technical-interdisciplinary competition in which teams of students from all over the world design and build a house whose energy requirements are covered solely by solar energy .

Europe stands for the venue and does not limit the origin of the participants to the European continent. The two competitions held so far took place in Madrid (Spain). The Solar Decathlon Europe, which will take place in 2014 [obsolete] , will then take place in Versailles (France) for the first time.

The offshoot of the American Solar Decathlon was awarded for the first time in summer 2008 by the Spanish government together with the Spanish Ministry of Construction and the Polytechnic University of Madrid . To this end, a bilateral agreement was reached between the American and Spanish governments. A similar agreement also established the Solar Decathlon China , which will be held for the first time in 2013.

participation

Student teams from any university or college in the world can take part. However, the Spanish government has excluded the Israeli Ariel University from SDE 2010 because it is "in occupied territories". Based on an application that each team must submit in advance of the competition, the organizer makes a preselection, whereby the field of participants is limited. In addition to the architectural and energy-related planning of the house, the organization and financing of the project are an essential part of the competition. The student teams have two years to plan and implement the construction project. The competition ends with a two-week meeting of all participants, in which the teams or their houses compete against each other in ten disciplines.

rating

The name Decathlon is derived from 10 sub-disciplines within the competition. The prototypes are evaluated not only in terms of energy efficiency and the innovative use of energy-active solar technology, but also in terms of living quality and sustainable development for the building industry. In addition, the public interest in energy-efficient and sustainable construction aroused by the respective teams is assessed.

In 2012, the following sub-disciplines were decisive in the competition:

  • architecture
  • Technical implementation & construction
  • Energy efficiency
  • Electrical energy balance
  • Comfort and indoor climate
  • Functionality of the house
  • communication
  • Prefabrication and market potential
  • innovation
  • sustainability

In addition to the awards in the sub-disciplines, special prizes outside of the actual competition - e.g. B. for a house that is particularly handicapped accessible.

The distribution of points is shown in the graphic Total scoring SDE 2012. The French contribution Canopea with the project manager Christophe de Tricaud achieved first place in the subcontests Architecture, Comfort Conditions, House Functioning and Innovation and thus achieved the overall victory. The entry Patio 2.12 from Spain achieved first place in the areas of energy efficiency, electrical energy balance and communication and social awareness and thus overall second place in the competition. Team Med from Italy achieved first place in the sustainability category and third place overall.
