The General Association of Communication Agencies GWA e. V. is a lobby group for German communication and advertising agencies based in Frankfurt am Main and Berlin .

history

Originally, the acronym stood GWA for, founded in 1952 " G ompany W heritage a GENCIES". This merged in 1986 with the German Advertising Agencies Association (WDW) under the name Gesamtverband Werbeagenturen GWA . The association has been known under the current name of the General Association of Communication Agencies GWA since 2002 . The foundation and the renaming reflect the attempt to avoid negative terms. In the 1950s there was a switch from advertising to advertising . This term, too, had a negative connotation, despite opposing numbers. Ralf Nöcker has been the managing director since 2009. The President of the Board is Benjamin Minack of Lack of Resources.

The approximately 120 members of the GWA include leading agencies from Germany such as DDB (Germany) , BBDO , Gray , Jung von Matt , JWT , Saatchi & Saatchi and Scholz & Friends . Admission criteria stored in the statutes determine the acceptance of an agency.

The GWA has had an office in Berlin since 2017 and has since been in dialogue with politicians, for example on issues of labor law and advertising regulation.

Awards ceremonies

The GWA regularly holds its own award ceremonies. The most famous award is the GWA Effie . It is awarded according to the same criteria in more than forty countries and is recognized for effective brand communication. The GWA Junior Agency Award is aimed at students.

Publications

The GWA publications include the GWA yearbook with portraits of its members and the GWA Effie book with the presentation of the respective finalists and winners of the award ceremony. The GWA is the initiator of a website for agency selection.

Cooperations

The GWA, in turn, is a member of the Central Association of the German Advertising Industry (ZAW).
