Association of Swiss manufacturers of concrete admixtures

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association of Swiss Manufacturers of Concrete Admixtures (FSHBZ) is a Swiss association of manufacturers in Zurich . The member companies undertake to comply with all protective and safety measures during production and to weight the environmental compatibility of the products equally as the technical requirements.

seal of approval

The FSHBZ seal of approval defines ecological criteria for concrete and mortar additives with the aim of minimizing the effects on people and the environment when using concrete additives. The FSHBZ seal of approval is awarded to products that have no foreseeable impact on the environment and can therefore be viewed as environmentally friendly. Aspects of the entire life cycle of concrete admixtures are taken into account. Products that have been awarded the FSHBZ seal of approval meet the following requirements:

  • They are not classified as toxic, harmful or environmentally hazardous.
  • They are neither explosive nor flammable.
  • When used properly, they are neither corrosive nor irritating nor sensitizing.
  • Materials containing with the seal of excellent products are inert substances according to the Swiss legislation on waste can and the Baustoffrecycling be supplied.
  • They are optimized in terms of packaging.

criteria

Prohibited substances

The following substances are not to be used intentionally as ingredients in concrete admixtures:

  • Toxic, persistent and bioaccumulative substances according to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants of May 22, 2001
  • Priority substances in the field of water policy in accordance with Decision No. 2455/2001 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 November 2001 establishing the list of priority substances in the field of water policy and amending Directive 2000/60 / EC
  • Substances on the current OSPAR list of chemicals for priority measures according to the OSPAR Convention on the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Northeast Atlantic of September 22, 1992
  • Substances according to the communication from the EU Commission to the Council and the European Parliament (COM (2001) 262; Table 3 of the document) on the implementation of the Community strategy for environmental hormones - substances that are suspected of having a disruptive effect on the endocrine system of humans and the impact on wild animals (COM (1999) 706)
  • Substances according to the working paper of the EU Commission (SEC (2004) 1372; Tables 1, 2, 3 of the document) for the implementation of the Community strategy for environmental hormones - substances that are suspected of having a disruptive effect on the endocrine system of humans and wild animals (COM (1999) 706)

The products contain less than the limit values listed below for the following substances:

Products that are used indoors or that can get indoors must not contain any volatile organic compounds ( boiling point <150 ° C at 1013.25 mbar and vapor pressure > 1 mbar at 20 ° C).

classification

The products must be tested and classified in accordance with the Chemicals Ordinance (ChemV). The safety data sheets are complete and correct in accordance with the requirements of the ChemV.

  • At the time of registration, the products must not be classified with R-phrases that indicate explosive or inflammable properties or toxic, harmful or environmentally hazardous effects according to ChemV. The following R-phrases are considered relevant in this regard: R2, R3, R10, R11, R12, R15, R17, R20, R21, R22, R23, R24, R25, R26, R27, R28, R33, R39, R40 , R45, R46, R48, R49, R50, R51, R52, R53, R54, R55, R56, R57, R58, R59, R60, R61, R62, R63, R64, R65, R68 and the respective combinations (see Appendix B for the wording of the R-phrases).
  • If a product is classified with one of the following R-phrases, a detailed test must be carried out (see section 3.2): R1, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9, R14, R16, R18, R19, R30, R31 , R32.
  • If a product is classified as corrosive, irritant or sensitizing, a detailed test must be carried out. Accelerators for shotcrete must not be classified as corrosive.

Waste management and packaging

Concrete that contains products that have been awarded the FSHBZ seal of approval must meet all the criteria of the Technical Ordinance on Waste (TVA; replaced in 2016 by the Waste Ordinance (VVEA)) for inert substances in terms of total content and eluate behavior . The seal of approval also requires that all eluate limit values are at least a factor of 2 below the corresponding limit values of the TVA. The TVA limit values for inert substances are in practice the basis for the classification of recycling material. The stricter limit values compared to the TVA are justified as follows:

  • Concrete from demolition work contains various chemical products (e.g. binders, adhesives and dyes, polymers). The limit value should therefore not already be reached by a product.
  • If material is used as filling material in road construction after the demolition, for example, stricter criteria must be applied than for landfilling.
  • An ever increasing proportion of concrete is recycled ( recycled concrete ). It can be assumed that the requirements for the quality of the recycling material will become stricter in the future. For this reason, emissions from the concrete should be kept as low as possible.

Eluate limit values for concrete containing admixtures with the FSHBZ seal of approval:

  • Organic substances in the eluate <10 mg / l (DOC)
  • Ammonium content in the eluate <0.25 mg N / l
  • Content of nitrite in the eluate <0.05 mg NO 2 - / l
  • Phosphate content in the eluate <0.5 mg P / l

The packaging complies with international transport regulations (ADR / RID / IMDG / IATA). Product quantities over 50 kg are sold in recyclable or reusable containers. The disposal regulations are noted on the safety data sheet. A telephone number is given on the container, the technical data sheets or the safety data sheets, under which information can be obtained in the event of disposal questions.

Test procedure

The test procedure is carried out in two steps:

First step

The test is based on the data from the safety data sheet and additional information about the ingredients.

  • If the product meets all the criteria, it can be considered environmentally friendly and receives the FSHBZ seal of approval. The test procedure has ended.
  • If the product does not meet all criteria, a detailed examination of the safety measures described in the safety data sheet is required (see second step).

Second step

If a product does not meet the criteria for prohibited substances, classification or waste management and packaging, the FSHBZ seal of approval will not be awarded. For products with a corrosive, irritant or sensitizing effect and / or those with one of the R-phrases R1, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9, R14, R16, R18, R19, R30, R31 or R32 (see section 2.2 ) are classified, a detailed test must be carried out. The safety measures listed in the safety data sheet are checked for completeness and effectiveness. The recommended measures in the safety data sheet must prevent harmful effects on humans and the environment during the entire life cycle of the product.

  • If the safety measures are adequately listed in the safety data sheet, the FSHBZ seal of approval is issued.
