The Fada Archei nature reserve is located in northeastern Chad , in the Ennedi region south of the city of Fada . It was established in 1967 and covers an area of 2110 km² in the western part of the Ennedi massif .

The terrain of the nature reserve comprises flat areas in the western part, which is covered by the semi-desert vegetation of the South Saharan grass and shrub savannah. The eastern part lies in the sandstone desert of the Ennedi with its gorges eroded deep into the rock . In these there are six lakes , which are fed by springs from the Nubian sandstone aquifer . The daily water release from the groundwater reservoir is approx. 600 to 700 m³ per day, so that gallery forests can develop around the lakes . These consist of fragrant acacia ( Acacia nilotica ), Seyal acacia ( Acacia seyal ), Adina microcephala , desert date ( Balanites aegyptiaca ), white stem ( Boscia angustifolia ), Ficus spp. and Vitex doniana .

Large mammals in the area of the nature reserve include the lion ( Panthera leo ), the cheetah ( Acinonyx jubatus ), the mendes antelope ( Addax nasomaculatus ), the barbary sheep ( Ammotragus lervia ) and the Dorcas gazelle ( Gazella dorcas ). The size of the stocks is uncertain, however, as no censuses have been taken since the 1970s.

The avifauna is naturally richer; so in 1997, among other holdings were the stain Flight chicken ( Pterocles coronatus ), the strips Flight chicken ( Pterocles lichtensteinii ), the Wüstenuhus ( Bubo ascalaphus ) and the long-tailed glossy Stars ( Lamprotornis pulcher registered).
