The Sebastes Rubrivinctus ( Sebastes rubrivinctus ) is a marine fish in the family of sebastidae . It occurs in the Eastern Pacific from San Francisco ( California ) to San Quintín (northern Baja California ).
features
The fish grows up to 51 centimeters and weighs a maximum of 1.45 kilograms. Reports of specimens over 60 cm in length are probably based on confusion with Sebastes babcocki . On a rosy-whitish basic color, the flag spiked head shows some noticeable broad red or reddish-blackish transverse bands on the head, trunk and caudal fin. In juvenile fish, the transverse bands are monochrome blackish, in specimens larger than 35 cm they can increasingly fade. The number of pectoral fin rays is 17 (19 in Sebastes babcocki ). The maximum age is around 18 years.
Way of life
The flag spiked head prefers to stay close to the ground in rocky areas at depths of 30 to approx. 300 meters.
