Fairfield is a suburb of Melbourne , Victoria , Australia , six kilometers northeast of Melbourne city center (CBD, Central Business District ). It belongs to the Local Administrative Areas ( LGA ) of Yarra City and Darebin City . At the 2016 population census, Fairfield had a permanent population of 6,558.

geography

The boundaries of the district are Grange Road in the east, Heidelberg Road in the south, Darebin Road in the north and the Northcote district in the west. Today, most of the business and shopping opportunities in Fairfeld Village are concentrated around Station Street, north of the Fairfield stop on the Hurstline railway. Most of Fairfield, however, consists of single-family homes, parks and sports areas.

The Yarra Bend Park is a large-scale flow of parkland on the Yarra River in Fairfield, the 260 hectares in size and is visited annually by about 1.5 million people.

history

The Fairfield Post Office opened on February 21, 1887. In 1962, Fairfield initially belonged to the City of Heidelberg , later in the same year it was incorporated into the City of Northcote and finally in 1994 it was divided into the local administrative areas City of Darebin and Yarra City .
