Career
He became known in the 1960s as the front man of the group Amen Corner , which had some successful singles in the UK. After two top twenty and two top ten hits, their fifth single "(If Paradise Is) Half As Nice" reached number 1 in the British charts on February 12, 1969 for two weeks. The band broke up in 1970 and Fairweather Low formed the group Fair Weather , which only existed for a short time.
In 1974 Fairweather Low started his solo career. By 1980 he released four albums. After that he worked mainly as a guest musician and played for Dave Edmunds , Gerry Rafferty , Richard Thompson , Roy Wood and The Who , among others . Today he is best known as a regular member of the live bands of Eric Clapton and Roger Waters . For example, he took part in Clapton's MTV Unplugged concert and played on Roger Waters' The Wall - Live in Berlin , with which he was again on the The Dark Side of the Moon tour in 2006 .
On November 29, 2002 he took part in the memorial concert for George Harrison . He belonged to the Concert for George main band and also supported other performers, e. B. Joe Brown .
Instruments
From Fender he got his own signature Stratocaster . Today Andy Fairweather Low plays mostly Fender guitars and Gibson's ES series . His standard instruments also include acoustic guitars from Martin Guitar . Andy Fairweather Low also invented the first nylon string guitar with pickups for Eric Clapton . When Eric Clapton wrote Tears In Heaven , he asked Fairweather Low if he owned a guitar that had nylon strings and still had a pickup. Clapton also wanted to play Tears In Heaven at big concerts and not have a microphone in front of the resonance hole. Fairweather Low then showed Clapton such a guitar.
