Fajara War Cemetery
The Fajara War Memorial or Fajara War Cemetery is a military cemetery in the West African state of Gambia .

It is located on the eastern side of Kairaba Avenue (also Pipeline Road ), which leads from the center of Serrekunda to Fajara, a district of Bakau . The rectangular area is around 94 meters deep and 40 meters wide. Shortly behind the entrance there is a six-meter-wide archway that directs the eye to a Christian cross in the back .
It commemorates the Allied soldiers who died between 1939 and 1945 during the Second World War , when the Gambia was still a British crown colony , and the soldiers of the British Commonwealth of Nations . 200 soldiers are buried, including Australian , New Zealand and Canadian . One of them is not identified. The archway at the entrance is intended to commemorate the 33 fallen Gambians who are buried elsewhere.
