Fact database

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A fact database is essentially characterized by the fact that it contains measured or observed data, i.e. the primary data or information.

In contrast to this, reference databases (e.g. literature databases ) only contain references to the primary information and data (secondary information).

Fact databases also often contain additional references in which the source of the information or the date is proven (see below).

Fact databases are often cataloged in terms of form and content. In addition, they have a very detailed structure, i. That is, they contain fields with metadata in addition to the actual data . This distinguishes them in particular from full-text databases , which structure their information only slightly.

Fact databases are used extensively in natural science and technical subjects.
