The Faculty of Christian and Classical Literature Studies ( Latin : Facultas Litterarum Christianarum et Classicarum / Pontificium Institutum Altioris Latinitatis , Italian : Facoltà di Lettere Cristiane e Classiche / Pontificio Istituto Superiore di Latinità , FLCC ) is one of six faculties of the Pontifical University of Salesians in Rome .

history

Pope John XXIII founded the Pontificium Institutum Altioris Latinitatis (Higher Institute for Latin) on February 22, 1962 in the implementation of the Apostolic Constitution Veterum sapientia . Two years later, on February 22nd, 1964, it was given to the Salesians of Don Bosco in accordance with the Motu Proprio Studia Latinitatis Paul VI. On June 4, 1971, the institute was attached to the Pontifical University of the Salesians in Rome as a faculty for Christian and classical literary studies. On November 10, 1990, the Instruction of the Congregation for Catholic Education, Sullo studio dei Padri della Chiesa nella formazione sacerdotale elencò, declared it first among the institutions specializing in patristicism .

methodology

The Faculty of Christian and Classical Literature Studies is divided into the following curricula and courses of study:

  • academic curriculum for undergraduate students for bachelor, licentiate and doctorate awards
  • special curricula for extraordinary students for the award of a certificate
  • Preparatory courses in Latin and ancient Greek language and literature
  • Postgraduate qualification measures for the acquisition of diplomas in the disciplines of Classical Christian, Byzantine and Medieval Spiritual Science
  • Conferences, seminars, meetings for study and further education in catechetical-patristic philology, education and literary history, for students and teachers
