Falconer was a Swedish power metal band from Mjölby , which was founded in May 1999 by the former Mithotyn guitarist Stefan Weinerhall after the band broke up. Weinerhall wanted to continue doing folk- influenced metal, but without the harsh vocals like Mithotyn's.

After the band Mithotyn split up in 1999, the guitarist Stefan Weinerhall decided to continue doing folk-inspired metal in the future . While he played guitar, bass and drums himself on the drum computer for the first songs and hired the later singer Mathias Blad as a session musician, after the release of a demo in early 2000 and a contract with the Metal Blade Records label, the former Mithotyn- Drummer Karsten Larsson to the band. In addition, Mathias Blad, who is a full-time musical singer and had almost no experience in a rock or metal band, was integrated into the band as a permanent singer.

At the end of 2000, the recordings for the debut album Falconer began , which was then published in early 2001. After the second CD Chapters from a Vale Forlorn was released in 2002, the band received several offers to play at festivals. The musicians decided not to be a pure studio project and accepted the offer. For this purpose, however, another guitarist and a bassist had to be found, as Weinerhall had previously only taken on these functions. This is how the two unrelated Johanssons, Peder and Anders joined Falconer. At the same time Mathias Blad left the band, who couldn't cope with concerts and tours because of his actual job as a musical singer. A replacement was found in Kristoffer Göbel.

In 2003 the band recorded their third album The Scepter of Deception . Some time later, in May 2004, Anders and Peder Johansson left the group. With Magnus Linhardt (bass) and Jimmy Hedlund (guitar) a replacement could be found.

In 2005 the album Grime vs. Grandeur that did not meet with the expected approval from the fans. The band then decided to return to their roots and, in exchange for Göbel, brought Mathias Blad back into the group.

On September 22, 2006, she released her fifth studio album, Northwind . On August 22, 2008, Among Beggars and Thieves was released .

The album Armod was released on June 3, 2011 and is mainly written in Swedish . After a longer creative break, during which the main songwriter Weinerhall even thought about quitting, the album Black Moon Rising was released in June 2014 .

With the release of the album From a Dying Ember , Falconer announced the breakup.

style

The band took over some of the traditions of Weinerhall's former band Mithotyn . She plays a form of Power Metal that uses folk instruments and melodies to create a medieval sound.

Worth mentioning is the old and new singer Mathias Blad, who, thanks to his many years of professional experience at the Swedish State Opera, knows how to underline the epic-folkloric style with a classically trained voice. Many listeners describe this as particularly clear and expressive, and his vocal technique is audibly professional.
