Famara is a Swiss band from Basel . Famara is both the name of the lead singer and the band accompanying him. Famara is best known in Switzerland, but also in West African countries.

Famara, bourgeois Thomas Nikles, grew up in the back Leimental in the canton of Solothurn . His first experience with music in 1984 with a percussion - Workshop and then developed a great interest in African rhythms. After a few solo appearances and guest appearances with Afro and Latin bands as well as a guest appearance with the Basel rapper Luana , he released his first single in 1997 .

At the beginning of 1998 he traveled to Gambia , where he took part in the annual Gambian independence festival and was dubbed the "Swiss Reggae Star". At the end of 1998 he went on tour in Gambia and produced his first album Natural Fact . In 2000 an Africa tour followed through Gambia, Senegal and Mali .

Several other albums have been released to date, and he also founded the band of the same name, Famara, which provides the reggae music for Famara's singing. Famara has also had various guest appearances with West African musicians such as Youssou N'Dour and Tiken Jah Fakoly .

In 2018 the backing band was given a name: "The Infinity Band".
