Fang Zhaoling ( Chinese 方 召 麐 ; born January 17, 1914 in Wuxi , Jiangsu ; † February 20, 2006 ) was a Chinese painter.
Life
Fang studied with well-known Chinese painters as a teenager. Her career was initially interrupted by the birth of eight children, the death of her husband, and the Chinese civil war. In the early 1950s she was a student of Zhang Daqian , one of the most renowned Chinese painters of the 20th century.
Fang exhibited her work around the world, particularly in the United States, Great Britain, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, China and Japan.
In 2005, her daughter Anson Chan , former Minister for Hong Kong's Transfer to China in 1997, donated 42 paintings to the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.
