Fanny roast
Fanny Ingeborg Matilda Brate , née Ekbom (born February 26, 1862 in Stockholm ; † April 24, 1940 there ) was a Swedish painter . Her work is considered an inspiration for the family idyll of the painter Carl Larsson .
Life
Fanny Brate was the daughter of John Frederic Oscar Gustaf Ekbom, a servant in the household of Carl of Sweden . After graduating from Konstfack (Swedish Art School) in Stockholm, she was accepted into the Kungliga Konsthögskolan Stockholm (Royal Academy of Liberal Arts) in 1879 at the age of 18 , which she attended until 1885.
In 1887 she married the humanities scholar Erik Brate (1857-1924), who worked in the field of runic research. The couple had four daughters, Astrid (1888–1929), Torun (1891–1993), Ragnhild (1892–1894) and Ingegerd (1899–1952). After marriage, Fanny Brate was forced to give up painting, but she kept her involvement in the Swedish art world as a patron of other artists. In 1891 she became a member of the Swedish artists' association Svenska Konstnärernas Förening .

In recognition of her artistic elaboration of the painting Konstvänner , which shows Brate surrounded by a crowd of children, she was awarded a royal medal in 1885. She is best known for her work Namnsdag , created in 1902 , which is now in the Swedish National Museum. Fanny Brate also illustrated many children's books, such as Mormors eventyr (Grandmother's Adventures).
In 1943 the National Museum held a memorial exhibition with 126 of their collected works. Her work includes oil paintings and watercolors and has significant cultural heritage value in its portrayal of bourgeois Swedish life in the nineteenth century.
