The Portocolom lighthouse ( Far de Portocolom in Catalan ; Faro de Porto Colom in Spanish ) is an active sea mark serving as a navigation point, landmark and signpost at the port entrance to Portocolom on the east coast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . The lighthouse is 25 meters high and a total of 42 meters above sea level. The nominal range of the light is about 20 nautical miles . The beacon emits groups of 2 flashes of light every 10 seconds and illuminates the sector from 207 to 006 °.
history
The construction of this lighthouse was included in the plan General de Balizamiento de las Costas y Puertos de España (roughly German : General plan of the beacons of the coasts and ports of Spain ) and was built in 1861 under the direction of the Spanish engineer Emili Pou y Bonet . In 1918 the tower was increased by 6.5 meters for a greater range and the light source was replaced with a more efficient one. In 1965 the light source was replaced by an electric light signal, the old optics of the Tramuntana lighthouse on the island of Sa Dragonera were installed here and the tower was raised by a further 10 meters. The lighthouse has since been painted white with four black horizontal stripes.
Others
The lighthouse stands on a steep wall and is half firmly connected to the two-storey operating building in the lower part. The MA-4060 ( Catalan : Carrer del Far - German: Lighthouse Street) leads to the lighthouse . The black and white cylindrical tower shaft tapers towards the top and has a surrounding balcony . The top is the lantern with a metal dome.
The lighthouse is not open to the public for tours. It is also no longer inhabited. The function of the beacon has been fully automated.
The ARLHS identification is BAL-055, nationally it is listed under the number ES-33610, internationally under E0310.
