Farah Karimi (born November 15, 1960 in Bidschar Garros , Iran ) is a Dutch politician .

From 1998 to 2006 she was a member of the Dutch Second Chamber for the GroenLinks party . She studied industrial design in Isfahan and was active in the resistance against the regime of Ayatollah Khomeini .

In 1983 she fled to Germany, after being recognized as a person entitled to asylum, she first lived in Hamburg , then began to study mathematics in Kiel . In 1989 she moved to Groningen and studied "International Relations and International Organizations" at the University of Groningen .

Farah Karimi headed the AISA project for the emancipation of black, migrant and refugee women in Utrecht for four years . In parliament she was the spokeswoman for foreign policy, development cooperation and defense for her group. It initiated the Dutch referendum on the draft EU constitution and initiated tightening of arms export legislation .

In early 2007 Karimi worked for the United Nations Development Program, UNDP. There she was a senior advisor within the SEAL project (support for the establishment of the Afghan legislature): In doing so, she supported various committees of the Afghan National Assembly. Farah Karimi has been the general director of Oxfam Novib since November 2007.
