Products

Faronics develops several software products for Windows and Mac OS X operating systems:

Deep Freeze

Deep Freeze is a utility released in 1999 that resets a computer to its original configuration every time it is restarted. Deep Freeze is available in two Windows versions (Standard for single computers and Enterprise for network computers) and one version for Mac OS X (development of a version for Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) was discontinued in 2010). Deep Freeze for Windows can be managed remotely through its own Enterprise Console or through Faronics Core. Deep Freeze Mac can be centrally managed for different computer environments using Apple Remote Desktop .

Deep Freeze is designed as a driver that ensures the integrity of the drive at the deep operating system level. By operating at this low level, Deep Freeze is able to redirect data to be stored on the drive, leaving the original data untouched. The redirected data is no longer referenced after the computer is restarted, so the system is restored to the disk sector level. Deep Freeze does not affect the user's computing experience.

In order for Deep Freeze to protect a computer's configuration, the computer's BIOS must be password-protected and the hard drive must be set as the first boot drive .

Anti-Executable

The Anti-Executable, originally published in 2005 under the name “FreezeX”, is an application whitelisting solution which, after the initial installation , creates a positive list consisting of the executable files on a computer. If Anti-Executable is active, unwanted executable files that are not on the whitelist cannot be executed.

Anti-Executable is available in two Windows versions (Standard for stand-alone computers and Enterprise for network computers). Anti-Executable Enterprise can be managed remotely through Faronics Core.

Faronics Anti-Virus

The anti-virus software for Windows released in 2010 combines anti-virus, anti- spyware and anti- rootkit technologies. Faronics Anti-Virus works with Deep Freeze so that program updates can be performed without having to turn off Deep Freeze protection. Faronics Anti-Virus is managed remotely through Faronics Core.

Faronics' multilayered approach to security

The IT security software package released in 2011 consists of Deep Freeze, Anti-Executable and Faronics Anti-Virus and uses a defense-in-depth strategy to protect workstations, combining anti-virus software with whitelisting technology and immediate system recovery. The package is managed remotely through Faronics Core.

Power Save

Power Save, published in 2007, offers a power management solution to support green IT initiatives and reduce electricity costs. Power Save monitors computer activity to ensure that it is not affecting the computer and reports on the energy savings. Power Save is available for both Windows and Mac OS X. Power Save for Windows can be managed remotely through Faronics Core. Power Save Mac can be monitored remotely through Faronics Core and centrally managed through Apple Remote Desktop .

Insight

The computer management and collaboration tool, released in 2007, enables teachers to teach, support, monitor, review student performance, and communicate with an entire class from a single computer. In addition, Insight can be used to monitor workstation applications and Internet activities. Insight runs on Windows and Mac OS X computers and is managed remotely from the central teacher's console.

WINSelect

WINSelect, published in 1997, is a user environment management solution that allows IT administrators to customize the operating system and application functionalities of a computer, such as: B. in the case of publicly accessible computers, kiosk computers, libraries, educational institutions or companies. WINSelect is available in two Windows versions (Standard for single computers and Enterprise for network computers). WINSelect Enterprise is managed remotely through Faronics Core.

System Profiler

System Profiler is IT asset management software that allows the user to take a detailed inventory of both the hardware and the software installed on a workstation and to output this in the form of a summary or report. System Profiler is available in two Windows versions (Standard for single computers and Enterprise for network computers). System Profiler Enterprise is managed remotely through Faronics Core.

Faronics Core

A tool released in 2009 for centralized management of the workstations using certain Faronics software products. Faronics Core uses Microsoft Management Console (MMC3) technology to set up specific groups of workstations, schedule software-specific tasks, and generate reports. Faronics Core can manage Anti-Virus, the Enterprise versions of WINSelect, Anti-Executable and System Profiler, as well as the Windows versions of Deep Freeze and Power Save. Computers with Power Save Mac installed can be monitored using Faronics Core for reporting purposes.
