Farruquito , actually Juan Manuel Fernández Montoya (* 1982 in Seville ), is a Spanish flamenco dancer.

Life

Since the death of his father, the flamenco singer El Moreno , in 2001 (due to a stroke at a concert in Buenos Aires) he has been the head of his family clan. He was considered a child prodigy, played with El Farruco in 1996 in Bodas de Gloria , where he was already referred to by his grandfather as the captain of the captains of the dance. With El Farruco he also appeared in flamenco by Carlos Saura . In 2001 he made appearances with his younger brother Farru (now called "Farruco"), with El Torombo and Jairo Barrul, as well as well-known steppers from New York in the Incognito production by Francis Brunn . Farruquito's credo is: "Whoever stops dancing has ceased to exist."

In September 2005, he drove a BMW at excessive speed and without a driver's license down a pedestrian who was killed in the process. He committed a hit-and-run and subsequently accused his underage brother of the crime on the advice of a family friend. In the process he stated that the entire clan was dependent on him. Prison would have unpredictable consequences for his career and his family. He was allowed to leave the courtroom as a free man and was only sentenced to a fine.

The judgment of the first instance met with severe criticism in Spain. It was hardly detrimental to the young dancer's career. Shortly afterwards he received an ovation during a performance in Madrid. In the second instance, the 2006 verdict was 16 months in prison and a fine of EUR 140,000 in damages for the family members of the victim. Thus, he avoided the feared multi-year prison sentence. This judgment also met with strong public criticism.

Shortly before the verdict, Farruquito married Rosario Alcántara at the age of 23 in the church of Cristo de los Gitanos in Seville in the traditional way. More than 1,500 guests, including well-known flamenco artists, were invited to the subsequent celebration.

Farruquito is one of the most famous bailaores of the young flamenco generation. He maintains the Gitano style, a powerful, energetic dance style with fast foot technique. Like many flamenco artists from Andalusia , his family is one of the gitanos .

His parents are Juan Fernández Flores, El Moreno , flamenco singer, and the dancer Rosario Montoya Manzano, La Farruca . He is also the grandson of the legendary flamenco dancer El Farruco , who died in 1997.
