history

The name "Fasanenhof" comes from Duke Eberhard Ludwig von Württemberg , who built a pheasantry on the site of today's settlement in 1730. The buildings were supplemented in 1783 when Duke Carl Eugen and his wife Franziska von Hohenheim had a pleasure palace built. The name "Fasanenhof" also came from this time. The duke's brother, Friedrich Eugen , even built a temple dedicated to the goddess Flora . Hence the garden in which the temple was located was called “Floride” or “La Floride”. One of the owners of the Fasanenhof was the young Stuttgart lawyer Ludwig Heigelin (1775–1804), who bought it in 1799 and where he and his wife Karoline nee. Vischer (1779–1853) and their son Karl Marcell (1798–1833) lived. His widow sold the estate in 1805. Heigelinstrasse in Fasanenhof-Ost is named after him. The area of today's settlement, which up until then was mainly used for agriculture, belonged to Leinfelden-Echterdingen until 1940 . In 1940 it was sold to the city of Stuttgart and has belonged to the Stuttgart-Möhringen district ever since .

The Fasanenhof settlement

As early as 1940, the idea of a large housing estate belonging to Stuttgart was publicly handled. In fact, the first apartments could not be moved into until 1960. The construction phase lasted 8 years. All in all, living space was created for 10,000 people. In 2011 there were still 6,416 residents living in the residential complex. The settlement contains three twenty-story skyscrapers, three eight-story buildings, and three-story row houses. The purely residential area was later expanded to include an industrial area east of Bundesstraße 27 (Fasanenhof-Ost district).
