Almost gone

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fastweg is a common name for a ridge path , especially in the Harz low mountain range .

etymology

The name Fastweg is probably derived from the term Firstweg . As first a mountain or ridge is ridge called. A fast path is therefore a path on a mountain ridge.

Historical significance of the Fastweg

Fast routes were very important for the transport of goods . While river banks and mountain valleys were frequently affected by floods and the result of these floods often exhibited soft sediments and sedimentary rocks , the ridge paths could be safely crossed even in poor weather conditions. The frequent use of the fast paths meant that many of them can still be recognized today as ravines .

Almost ways

  • Fast ways in the Harz:

A whole system of fast routes runs through the Harz Mountains, which were part of a long-distance route between Central Germany and the Rhine . This network of paths was also referred to in its entirety as the Fastweg . Another Fastweg leads over the Bocksberg and is now used as a hiking trail from the Bocksberg into the valley to Osterode am Harz .

  • Fastweg on the Rotenberg:

The Fastweg on the ridge of the Rotenberg in the southern Harz is known and proven to this day . This fast route was probably used for the transport of goods as early as the Bronze Age and retained its importance beyond the Middle Ages . It was first mentioned in 1002 and was a connecting route between the royal courts near Pöhlde and Northeim. The southeast extension in the direction of Nordhausen is Hohe Straße , which runs over the Silkeroder hill country. Today the Fastweg on the Rotenberg serves as a forest and hiking trail.
