history

In October 2011, the Iranian Fars News Agency indicated that the first medium-weight Fateh-class submarines would be handed over to the Navy by the end of the 2010s. The boats are said to have state-of-the-art technologies that were developed and manufactured exclusively in Iran . The Navy of the Islamic Republic officially commissioned its first Fateh-class submarine on February 17. The ceremony took place at the Bandar Abbas naval base and was attended by President Hassan Rouhani. Defense Minister Amir Hatami , who was also present , stated during the celebrations that the submarine weighs 600 tons and is capable of launching torpedoes and anti-ship missiles . Iranian state media also reported that the submersible vehicles can reach depths of up to 200 meters and that they can be used for five weeks. Photographs and television footage released for the event showed the boat out of the water at the Bostanu shipyard west of Bandar Abbas. It has four 533 mm torpedo tubes on the bow, the propeller was covered. Photos were also posted showing retractable sensors, including a mast with electro-optic systems, as well as a conventional periscope .
