Fatima Spar (* 1977 in Hohenems , Austria, as Nihal Şentürk ) is a jazz musician living in Vienna who works in the field of world music .

Spar learned to play the guitar from the age of eleven; She has been involved in jazz singing since she was 13 and attended several workshops. After graduating from high school, she began studying music and theater studies, later fashion and clothing technology, in Vienna, but broke it off to return to jazz singing. In 2004 she founded the formation Fatima Spar and Freedom Fries , with which she appears internationally in Europe and already won the Austrian World Music Award in the year it was founded.

She writes her songs in Turkish, English and German. Her style ranges between swing , Balkan brass , calypso and oriental music. Spar was nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award . From Mondomix she was Act Freedom Fries awarded the "Coup de coeur". Their group was also the first Austrian band to play in the official WOMEX program . With the original formation she toured all over the world and played well over 300 concerts.

In 2013, within a few months, Spar and her long-term artistic partner Philipp Moosbrugger completed a completely new music program. This was adapted for the Vorarlberg Jazz Orchestra by the composer / arranger Philip Yaeger and recorded soon after by the 16-member ensemble in an almost forgotten studio in Liechtenstein in the 1970s. "The Voice Within" was presented on May 7th, 2015 in the Wiener Konzerthaus. She currently composes in the fields of jazz, swing, pop and alternative.

The Turkish-born Spar was an ambassador for the "European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008" .
