Fatimata Seye Sylla is a well-known woman in the Senegalese internet community. She works in several international organizations to improve the digital divide between different regions and to improve gender equality .

Life

Fatimata Seye Sella studied at the Center Africain d'Etudes Supérieures en Gestion (CESAG) in Dakar , where she graduated in business administration , at the British Institute in Dakar and has a degree in computer science from the University of Le Havre . She also has a master's degree in economics from MIT .

For nine years she worked for leading Senegalese companies in the information and communication technology industry, as well as an expert consultant for various international organizations, including ICANN .

Seye Sylla is known for defending the use of information and communication technology in Senegalese education. She initiated the first national program to introduce these technologies in Senegalese schools. She worked with the United Nations , the Panos Institute and the International Development Research Center (IDRC) to promote internet access in different regions. Her commitment in Senegal also included the collaboration with the Internet Society and the founding of the NGO OSIRIS , which promotes the use of information and communication technology in Senegal.

She took part in the World Summit on the Information Society in Geneva in 2003 and in Tunis in 2005 . She represents Senegal in the Société civile africaine pour la société de l'information (SCASI; African civil society for the information society). She is director of the Digital Freedom Initiative in Senegal, member of the Free and Open Source Software Foundation for Africa. She was a member of ICANN's At-Large Advisory Committee, where she represented Senegal. She also worked on the CATIA ( Catalyzing Access to ICT in Africa ) initiative, a program that supports information and communication technology initiatives in African countries and their managers. She is the chair of the NGO Bokk-Jang , founded by experts in communication technology, education and training.

In her work and publications, she focuses on gender equality in access to computer technology, as well as computer training for young women.
