Fauna is a guessing and learning game about animals . The game devised by Friedemann Friese was published by HUCH in 2008 ! & friends . The game illustrated by Peter Braun , Alexander Jung and Volker Maas was nominated for Game of the Year 2009.

Game flow

An animal is presented by name and picture. The players have to estimate which region it is native to and what weight, body length, tail length or speed it is. To do this, they alternately place their pieces on the respective fields. Each tip can only be submitted once. So if you hesitate too long, you can only hope to gain points by making a slightly more deviating estimate. Estimates that are too far from the actual value are, however, penalized by removing the token from the game for one round. This means that the player in question can give fewer tips in the next round.

Game material

In addition to the game board, which shows a world map and the estimation areas, the game contains:

  • 180 cards with two animals each
  • 1 small card box
  • 42 treasure stones in 6 colors
  • 30 evaluation stones
  • 1 starting player lion
  • 1 booklet with information on all animals in the game
  • 1 set of instructions
