Fear Effect is one of Kronos Digital Entertainment developed and Interactive Eidos out accommodated computer game .

history

The game was released in 2000 exclusively for Sony's PlayStation on a total of four CD-ROMs, which was quite rare even in view of the elaborate staging for a PlayStation game. The game was so successful that it continued with Fear Effect 2 - Retro Helix in 2001 . A third part called Fear Effect 3 - Inferno was in development for the PlayStation 2 , but was never released. There is an extensive trailer of this third part that already shows many cutscenes.

Fear Effect is classified in the genre of action adventures . The player takes on the role of Hana Tsu Vachel, who is one of three mercenaries in futuristic Hong Kong trying to track down Wee Ming Lam, the daughter of a powerful Chinese triad boss.

The game is based on gameplay and the like. a. on the Resident Evil series, but instead of rigid, pre-rendered backgrounds, uses FMVs that use streaming and looping processes as animated backgrounds to create a new and unmistakable look. In addition, game and cut scenes merge seamlessly.

Instead of a standard damage display, which is not uncommon for this genre, Fear Effect has a so-called "Fear Meter", which shows the protagonist's state of fear and adrenaline. It turns red when the main character is damaged or gets into another threatening situation. If you win an exchange of fire, you can unobtrusively turn off a guard or successfully solve a puzzle, you get an adrenaline rush and the "Fear Meter" turns green again (normal state).

filming

A film adaptation of the game was planned several times, the last time for 2008. The plan has not yet been implemented.
