The Federação Caboverdiana de Basquetebol (FCBB) is the national umbrella organization for basketball in the West African island republic of Cape Verde . She resides in the sports complex Pavilhão Desportivo Vává Duarte in Chã de Areia, a district of the capital Praia .
history
In Cape Verde, which was a Portuguese colony until 1975, basketball was always overshadowed by popular football and only slowly developed after independence.
The FCBB was founded in 1986 and was accepted by the world association FIBA in 1988.
activities
The FCBB sends u. a. the Cape Verdean national basketball team for men to international events. So far, she has not been able to qualify for either World Championships or the Olympic Games, but she regularly manages to participate in the African Championships . Third place in the 2007 African Basketball Championship is considered the greatest success .
In cooperation with the individual island associations, it organizes the national championship, as a tournament of the seven best-placed clubs, the Campeonato Nacional de Basquetebol de Cabo Verde . In 2011 the capital city club Seven Stars won its third championship. In 2015, Bairro Craveiro Lopes from the district of the same name in the capital Praia succeeded last year's champion Académica do Mindelo from Mindelo .
The FCBB is a member of the Comité Olímpico Caboverdiano , the Cape Verdean National Olympic Committee .
Most recently, 43 Cape Verdean clubs were members of the FCBB. 558 female and 1620 male registered players are registered with the FCBB, plus around 2,000 unregistered players. (As of August 2015)
