Robert Excell White

Robert Excell White (born March 14, 1938 in Bolivar County , Mississippi , † March 30, 1999 in Huntsville , Walker County , Texas ) was an American multiple murderer who was executed in 1999. In police circles he was known as "Excell the Executioner".

Events

Robert White stabbed the 53-year-old gun collector Robert Perryman in McLennan County on May 10, 1974 and captured several firearms with his accomplices James and Gary Livingston. The next day they raided a small shop in Collin County . White shot dead the 73-year-old owner Preston Broyles and the two 18-year-old employees Gary Coker and Billy St. John. As a murder weapon he used a fully automatic Plainfield M1 stolen by Perryman . With loot less than $ 70, they escaped separately.

A few days after the crimes, White voluntarily surrendered to Mississippi authorities after confronting his cousin with the crime. His testimony and confessions also enabled his accomplices to be arrested. James Livingston was sentenced to death but pardoned to life imprisonment in 1983 . Gary Livingston was sentenced in 1975 to 20 years in prison, released in 1984 and 1986 committed suicide .

Robert White was sentenced to death in August 1974. In 1987, his conviction for procedural misconduct was overturned. He was not informed that his statements against the psychiatrists appointed by the court could be used against him. However, after a new trial in June 1987, he was sentenced to death again.

He served over 24 years on Texas Death Row and at the time of his execution was the longest inmate on Texas Death Row. In March 1999, he was executed with lethal injection in the Huntsville Unit .
