Federal Correctional Institution, Terminal Island
The Federal Correctional Institution, Terminal Island (FCI Terminal Island) is a low-security federal prison for 1,150 male inmates in California. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons , a subdivision of the United States Department of Justice .
FCI Terminal Island is located at the entrance to Los Angeles Harbor , between San Pedro and Long Beach .
Facility
All inmates are given regular jobs unless they are medically exempt. Institutional maintenance is the most common type of job that is outsourced. The prison will also have a metal factory that will produce high quality metal products. Federal Prison Industries, Inc. has a contract with FCI Terminal Island, which specializes in the repair, refurbishment, and restoration of furniture, office equipment, tires, and other government property.
