Salvatore Bonanno

Salvatore Bonanno (born November 5, 1932 in New York City , † January 1, 2008 in Tucson ) was an American mafioso and member of the Bonanno family . His nickname was Bill Bonanno .

Salvatore Bonanno was born in 1932 as one of the three children of the Mafia boss Joseph Bonanno and his wife Fay Labruzzo Bonanno. He attended the University of Arizona from 1952 to 1962 . When Bill Bonanno rose to consigliere within the family , this led to conflict. On January 28, 1966, there was a shooting, after which Bill Bonanno and his father hid for months before reaching an agreement with their opponents that the Bonannos should live on their farm near Tucson.

It was the subject of Gay Talese's book Honor Thy Father , published in 1971. The actor Joseph Bologna portrayed Bonanno in the 1973 television version of the book.

Bonanno wrote a book about his father's life called Bound By Honor: A Mafioso's Story . The book was filmed under the title Bonanno: A Godfather's Story and produced by Bill Bonanno.

He died of a heart attack on January 1, 2008.
