Federazione Italiana di Atletica Leggera

The Federazione Italiana di Atletica Leggera ( FIDAL ) is the umbrella organization for athletics in Italy . It was founded in 1906 and was one of the founding members of the IAAF in 1913 . The association is divided into 21 regional associations and has 188,608 members in 2,607 associations (as of December 31, 2013). Athletics as a popular sport is also practiced in the Unione Italiana Sport Per tutti .

history

The forerunner of the association was the Unione Podistica Torinese (UPT, founded in Turin in 1897). The current statute comes from the fascist era with law n. 426 of February 16, 1942. The association has kept up with international developments by bringing foreign experts to Italy as trainers and trainer instructors, including Peter Tschiene , Juri Verchoshansky and Arthur Lydiard . FIDAL officials have repeatedly played an important role in CONI , so that athletics is / was disproportionately represented in Italian sports politics. FIDAL also has a gallery of honor with the Hall of Fame della FIDAL to maintain tradition .
