Federico Elduayen , full name Federico Martín Elduayen Saldaña , (born June 25, 1977 in Fray Bentos ) is a former Uruguayan football player .
Career
society
The Elduayan used on the goalkeeper position belonged from 1998 to 2005 to the squad of the Montevidean club Club Atlético Peñarol , for whose team he played six years in the top Uruguayan league. The goalkeeper won the Uruguayan championship with Peñarol in 1999 and 2003. In 2005 the Chilean club CD Universidad de Concepción signed him. He was active for almost five years for the club, for which he ran up in the Primera División . In 2008/09 his team won the Copa Chile . At the beginning of 2010 Elduayen signed with league rivals CD O'Higgins . There he completed 28 league games in 2010. Then he was in the 2011 Clausura in the Unión Españolas squad and played in 13 matches of the Primera División . From the end of May 2012 to the beginning of September 2013 he was under contract with the Bolivian first division team Universitario de Sucre and played 36 championship games in the Liga Profesional Boliviana . He then moved to Guabirá within Bolivia . There he played 36 games in the league in the 2013/14 season. A planned move to Universitario de Sucre in January 2015 came to nothing because Guabirá insisted on fulfilling the contract that ran until June 2015.
National team
In 2002 Elduayen received the first nominations for the Uruguayan national team and finally made his debut on May 21, 2002 in the friendly against Singapore for the Uruguayan selection when he was substituted on in the second half. He was appointed to the squad for the finals of the 2002 World Cup , but not used as a substitute goalkeeper behind the seeded Fabián Carini and the second goalkeeper Gustavo Munúa . The team was eliminated from the tournament as third party with two points.
