Feedback (spelling: FEEDBACK) is a German hard rock band. Its best-known member is Abbot Primate Notker Wolf , the highest representative of the worldwide Benedictine order . Feedback's songs are characterized by blues and hard rock of the 1970s and 1980s mixed with elements of current rock music.

history

Feedback was founded in 1976 by Lorenz "Lolli" Doppel (bass) and Christian "Cheesy" Ries (guitar) in the boarding school of the Rhabanus-Maurus-Gymnasium in Sankt Ottilien as a school band. Together with Helmut Gebele (rhythm guitar) and Bernd "Bull" Brauckmann (drums), the group made their first appearance in 1978 as "Black Power" at the school's house music day. Robert "Jeggi" Jakob (vocals, keyboard and synthesizer) and Hans-Ulrich "Sciff" Ruf (vocals, harp) strengthened the band, which renamed itself "The Specters" in 1979 and performed more on the SMV day and the high school's carnival ball . The song repertoire consisted mainly of original compositions such as LSD , He is a woman , Such a band and Jany . In 1980 Robert Jakob left school and the band.

In 1981 the group gave itself the current band name "Feedback". This year, school friend Christof Hieber, the current drummer, joined the band. The Feedback program continued to be characterized by self-composed songs such as Nine years , Don't throw your life away and Black hills , but also increasingly contained cover versions of bands such as the Rolling Stones , Deep Purple , Status Quo and ZZ Top . The first public appearance of Feedback took place in 1981 on the occasion of a "dance party" in the St. Bernhard youth center in Fürstenfeldbruck.

In 1982 most of the band members passed their high school diploma. Subsequently, Hans-Ulrich Ruf and Helmut Gebele left the group. Herbert "Cayt" Göschl, a classmate of Christof Hieber, started as a singer. During the basic military service of Lorenz Doppel and Christian Ries, the band rehearsed in the Funkkaserne Munich together with their comrade Koni Wagner on the keyboard. He was replaced in 1983 by Fritz Priemer, in whose cellar the band would hold their rehearsals in the future.

In 1989, Peter Hoffmann changed the line-up to the current keyboardist. After the departure of front man Herbert Göschl, Alexander "Bobl" Mattler, who had worked as saxophonist, percussionist and background singer in the band, took over the lead vocals in 1992.

In 1994 Feedback recorded their first studio album Feedback . The debut produced by Stefan Hiemer in Nuremberg contains nine original compositions.

Abbot Primate Notker Wolf, who was archabbot of the monastery in St. Ottilien at the time, joined the band in 1991. At that time there was a circus event in St. Ottilien, where feedback as a former school band also appeared. Enthusiastic about this concert, Wolf spoke to the musicians and arranged to meet at the next band rehearsal. There he appeared with his flute and played with the band on Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull . In the following years, Feedback studied other songs in which Wolf played on his flute. Later he learned his first fingerings on the electric guitar from his bandmate Christian Ries. His guest appearances at live concerts by Feedback in the 1990s, which were initially rare, met with great approval from the audience. Since taking office as Abbot Primate in Rome in 2000, Wolf has been involved in all of Feedback's appearances and achieved national recognition as "the rocking Abbot" with his red electric guitar as a trademark.

In 1997 Oliver Olschewski aka Jack Lower became the lead singer at Feedback after Alexander Mattler left the band. In 2001 there was feedback on her first TV appearance on ZDF in Berlin as a participant in the music show "Hour of the Stars", which was moderated by Michael Schanze .

In 2003 Feedback released their second album Rock my soul , which was recorded in the Village Recording Studios in Neufarn near Munich and produced by Sebastian Thorer. In addition to the song My best friend , which was promoted as a single, there are nine other original compositions on the CD as well as a cover version. Tobias "Toby" Nagy took part in the studio recordings as a background singer, who has since joined the band at live concerts.

Further television appearances followed. In 2003 Feedback played two of her songs live on the show 3 nach 9 with Abbot Primate Wolf as a talk guest at Giovanni di Lorenzo . At the ORF in Vienna the band appeared in 2003 on the occasion of a television gala organized by the organization Licht ins Dunkel and in 2004 as a guest on the Vera program .

The release of the album Rock my soul brought feedback in the following years a large number of concert appearances in Germany and Austria. The highlight was feedback in August 2008 at an open air concert in the Benediktbeuern monastery as the opening act for Deep Purple in front of 5000 spectators on stage. Notker Wolf was invited to play the song Smoke on the Water live on stage with Deep Purple, which received a lot of attention from the audience and the media (e.g. report in the ARD Tagesthemen ).

When Oliver Olschewski left Feedback in December 2010, the group was already working on songs for a new album. In January 2011, Roland "Rogl" Gläser, the current lead singer, joined the band; he was previously the front man of the Franconian cover band "Big Chili".

In 2012 Feedback released her third album No Lies . It contains 12 original compositions, recorded and produced by Corni Bartels in the Munich space studios. The lavishly designed album is musically and lyrically the band's most demanding work to date. In addition to classic rock songs like Rock 'n' Roll is king and sensitive ballads like Perfect girl , it contains songs that address serious issues, such as the abuse of children in Devil's paradise , the dangers of alcohol consumption in Help me and fanatical fundamentalism in Rock the border .

In 2013 Ramon glasses joined the band. He replaced Christof Hieber on drums.
