The public holidays are laid down in the “Law on Public Holidays and Remembrance Days ” ( Pühade ja tahtpäevade seadus ), which the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) adopted in January 1998 ( RT I 1998, 13, 162). After that, there are ten non-working public holidays in Estonia ( riigipüha ) as well as a folk holiday ( rahvuspüha ) Estonian National Day (founding of the Republic of Estonia on 24 February 1918).
In addition, according to the law, there are seven state days of remembrance ( riiklikud tahtpäevad ) that are not free of work.
