The Mechanical Museum fur Bergmuehle mainly shows the separation serving machines of manufacturing technology . The main feature of the museum is the preservation of productive operations at the time of its closure. As a snapshot of industrial history, the exhibition differs from the frequently used chronological concept. After its restoration in 1997, visitors can authentically understand the operation, from the energy supply to the demonstration of the machines.

history

transmission

The precision engineering company in Merzig was founded in 1927 by Johann Peter Hartfuß. He set up operations in a mill that had previously been used to grind grain and oil. The original mill was built in 1767 by Romanus Siegele and Mathias Gusenburger am Seffersbach. The fast flowing stream drove up to 32 mills. The precision engineering company manufactured machines and tools for watchmakers . The hydropower was initially used by means of a water wheel . The increase in efficiency took place in 1929 by installing a Francis turbine . In addition to the production machines, it was able to drive a direct current generator by means of transmission . One of the company's successful in-house developments was the Cardan wedding ring engraving machine , developed and patented in 1931 , with which wedding rings could be inscribed using stencils . This engraving machine can still engrave the desired initials in a few minutes.

The clockwork, constructed in 1925 by Johann Peter Hartfuß, the founder of the precision engineering company in Merzig, drove the "Saarland clock" (also called tomato, fruit or flower clock) in the Merzig city park in 1955. The dial was made from apples, pears, tomatoes, beans, peas, carrots and grapes.

Further use
