Felix Saul

Felix Saul (born December 22, 1883 in Preußisch Stargard ; † November 17, 1942 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish music teacher, cantor and choir director of German origin.

life and work

Saul studied from 1899 to 1904 at the teachers' college in Münster . In 1904 he became cantor and choir director at the Düsseldorf synagogue . In 1909 Saul moved to Stockholm with his future wife Margareta Cohn , where they became chief cantor. He worked in this community until 1932 when he gave up his position due to a dispute with the community leader.

At the same time he taught at several music schools and conservatories. In 1917 he founded the Stockholm Music Society . In 1919 Saul became a Swedish citizen. 1919/1920 he worked as a music critic for the Dagens Nyheter and from 1927 to 1937 for the Folkets Dagblad Politiken . In 1925 he founded the Swedish Music Education Association . He edited the magazine Musikkultur with the composer Wilhelm Peterson-Berger from 1926 to 1929 .
