The Felixer Weiher or Tretsee (Italian Lago di Santa Maria or Lago di Tret ) is a lake in South Tyrol ( Italy ). It is a protected natural monument .

location

The Felixer Weiher is located in the northwestern foothills of the Mendelkamm , where the mountain range gently slopes down to the Gampenpass , in the middle of a landscape characterized by forests and meadows. The closest localities are in the southwest of St. Felix , a fraction of the community of Our Lady in Walde-St. Felix am Deutschnonsberg , and, across the border to the neighboring province of Trentino , Tret , a fraction of the municipality of Borgo d'Anaunia . The lake can be reached via several hiking trails that lead further east to the northernmost prominent elevation of the Mendelkamm, the Gantkofel ( 1866  m slm ).

topography

The lake is located at 1604  m slm and extends over a surface of 3.84 hectares. It is a maximum of 3 m deep and thus has an estimated volume of 76,000 m³. Its shoreline is 812 m long, the catchment area is only 1.8 km². In the northeast of the water there is a small island.

ecology

The pond is classified as oligotrophic to mesotrophic . However, since a strong growth of aquatic plants is recorded nonetheless , as a measure against the threat of silting up, they are cut and removed once or twice a year.

Analyzes of the water quality with regard to suitability as a bathing lake yielded very good results.

Name story

In the Atlas Tyrolensis from the 18th century the lake appeared nameless. The name Felixer Weiher is older than the alternative name Tretsee, which was coined when the inhabitants of Tret bought grounds near the pond.
