Fellowship of Christian Athletes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is an international Christian non-profit sports organization based in Kansas City in the US state of Missouri .

The FCA was founded in 1954 and has more than a thousand full-time employees on three continents. As products become more widely known through endorsement by top athletes, basketball coach Don McClanen founded the FCA, on the one hand to spread the good news of Christianity with the help of top athletes and, on the other hand, to strengthen athletes in their competitive stress with the power of common prayer. The FCA is aimed at athletes, coaches and students. The work is cross-denominational and moves mainly in the environment of college and professional teams. After its success in the USA, the FCA has also become involved internationally in recent years. In 2013 the FCA had campus groups ( huddles ) at more than 9,000 schools and universities with more than 450,000 participants. In addition, 429 camps with almost 60,000 participants were organized in the summer. Among others, Otto Graham , Branch Rickey , Tom Landry , Bobby Bowden , John Wooden , Roger Staubach , Jim Ryun , Herschel Walker , Reggie White , Tony Dungy , Shaun Alexander and Tom Osborne are involved in the FCA . In contrast to the Church and Sport working groups in Germany, the FCA has so far excluded controversial topics such as doping .
