The Felsenkeller in Leipzig is a hall building in the Plagwitz district (Lindenau district).

The current building was built in 1890 in the then suburb of Plagwitz by the Leipzig architects August Hermann Schmidt (1858–1942) and Arthur Johlige (1857–1937) in the neo-baroque style as a replacement for the old rock cellar to the north. The builder was the Carl Wilhelm Naumann brewery . At that time, the building comprised a building complex with 1000 seats, a spacious garden, terraces and verandas . The most striking feature is the two-story corner tower, which is crowned by a neo-baroque dome.

In addition to being used as a concert and ballroom, the rock cellar light cinema was operated in the hall . The large ballroom also served as a meeting place for the Leipzig workers' movement. Before 1933, Karl Liebknecht , Rosa Luxemburg , Clara Zetkin and Ernst Thälmann, among others, spoke here . During the Second World War, the building remained without major damage. In 1946 the city organization of the FDJ was founded in the Felsenkeller . In the same year, the district party convention of the Leipzig SPD took place, at which it was decided to unite with the KPD to form the SED .

The rock cellar was partially reconstructed in the early 1980s. Until the fall of the Berlin Wall, it served as a cultural center, restaurant and entertainment venue.

In autumn 2005, the renovation of the interior began, after which the building, which had been vacant for years, could be used again. In the first construction phase, the large hall with the two aisles and the foyer were extensively renovated. Parking spaces for cars and buses have been created in the immediate vicinity. Since 2014, cultural events such as concerts, readings and parties have been held in the Felsenkeller again, while the building is being renovated at the same time. In order to enable profitable operation, according to the operating company, a supermarket was built on a large part of the former outdoor area.
