The rock cellar near Fischbach near Nuremberg is a rock cellar carved into the sandstone . It is located in the non-parish area of ​​Fischbach in the Middle Franconian district of Nürnberger Land in Bavaria .

The rock cellar is located about 800 meters northeast of Fischbach near Nuremberg in the Lorenzer Reichswald . It is part of the EU bird sanctuary area Nuremberg Reichswald .

use

Today's cellar originally served as a quarry. It was then expanded into a rock cellar to store ice from the neighboring Flach- and Gauchsweiher (now known as Vogelherdsweiher). Later it was used for potato storage and the surrounding area as a cow pasture. The area around the cellar was initially used as a quarry . The stone blocks obtained were also used for the Neptune Fountain in Nuremberg . For many years the site was overgrown and used as an adventure playground. After the renovation, the basement is now used for fewer parties.

history

The cellar was mentioned as a quarry as early as 1662. A note with a picture can be found in the Nuremberg State Archives. Around 1665 it was converted into a rock cellar. The basement and the site were renovated in 1988 by the Nuremberg Southeast Association. Every year in mid-June, the Felsenkellerfest and, since 1994, a forest Christmas are celebrated here.

Access

The cellar can be reached on foot or by bike from Fischbach via forest roads. The site can be accessed all year round. The cellar itself is locked with a gate and is used as a storage cellar.
