Feqiyê Teyran
Feqiyê Teyran (* 1590 in Miks / Ottoman Empire ; † 1660 ibid) was a Kurdish poet and Sufi mystic. He is counted among the classics of Kurdish poetry. He is reported to have spoken to the birds. His real name was Mir Mihemed . He was born in the village of Miks - today's Bahçesaray - in what was then the province of Hakkari. As a young man he went to the Kurdish emirate of Cizire Botan , which was located in today's Şırnak , to study and write poetics there under the supervision of his teacher Melayê Cezîrî . In addition to poetry, he also went through classical training at a madrasa .
His name Feqiyê Teyran, which translated means pupil of the birds , is derived from the work Mantiq ut-tair (" The Conference of Birds ") by the Persian poet Fariduddin Attar . Feqiyê Teyran wrote several works, including "Wesfê şêxê senhanî" (In honor of Sheikh Sanan), "Qewlê Hespê Reş" (The legend of the black horse) and "Ber Sîs". His works were very much influenced by traditional Kurdish folk tales. In addition to these legends, he also wrote several poems. His most famous poems are those he wrote in dialogues with his teacher. His epic "Sheikh San'an" ( Şêx Sen'an û Tarsâ ) deals with the love of a Muslim sheikh for a Christian.
Feqiyê Teyran should also have been the first to write about the Battle of Dimdim from 1609–1610. The battle was fought between the Iranian Safavids and a Kurdish prince in the castle of Dimdim.
Feqiyê Teyran also wrote a grammar of Kurmanji in verse form. He had a great influence on Ehmedê Xanî .
In June 2010, a festival was organized in Bahçesaray in his honor by Turkey. A second cultural festival took place in 2012.
