Ferdinand Feigl

Ferdinand "Ferdl" Feigl (born May 25, 1898 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary , † December 31, 1961 in Vienna, Austria ) was an Austrian national soccer player . The goalie reached the Austrian Cup final in 1923 with his parent club SC Wacker Wien .

Career

Ferdl Feigl learned to play football at the Meidlinger Klärfeld. During the First World War he came to the district club SC Wacker Vienna , where he was the goalkeeper from 1915. He proved himself quickly and as a reward was allowed to make his debut in the Austrian national team against Hungary in Budapest on June 4, 1916 . Ferdl Feigl stood in the goal of the Black and Whites from Meidling for almost a decade, the undisputed high point of this time was the Austrian Cup final in 1923, which, however, went 1: 3 to the Vienna Sport Club .

At the beginning of 1925 Ferdl Feigl was transferred to the Vienna AC , where he played until 1928 and produced an excellent figure. So on December 13, 1925 in Liège, when he won the away win against Belgium, he even made his second unexpected appearance in the Austrian team after more than nine years. After his playing days he returned to Wacker, where, while working as head coach, in which he succeeded Robert Lang, he achieved the famous away win against Prague Slavia in 1929 .
