Ferdinand Ganal

Ferdinand Ganal (born April 9, 1703 in Saarlouis ; † October 22, 1775 there ) was a German sculptor of the Baroque and Rococo . He worked mainly in Kurtrier and the county of Nassau-Saarbrücken .

Life

Ganal was born in 1703 as the son of the carpenter Joseph Ganal (1673-1742) and his wife Jeanne Roblet (around 1682-1722). Ganal was probably a pupil of the Nassau-Saarbrücken court sculptor Pierrard de Coraille . He worked several times with the architect Christian Kretzschmar . One of Ganal's main works is the ornate epitaph for Henning von Stralenheim in the St. Arnual collegiate church .

In 1723 he married the merchant's daughter Marguerite le Blanc (1702–1753) in Saarlouis, with whom he had 13 children. After the death of his first wife, Ganal married Anne Marie Weber (1712–1767) in Saarlouis in 1753 .
