Ferdinand Lentjes

Ferdinand Lentjes (born January 3, 1882 in Duisburg , † October 7, 1955 in Düsseldorf ) was a German engineer and entrepreneur .

Career

Lentjes founded Rheinische Rohrleitungsbau GmbH in 1927 and the following year Ferdinand Lentjes Kesselschmiede und Maschinenbau based in Düsseldorf.

After his death, the entire estate, in particular the two companies, was transferred to the Ferdinand Lentjes Foundation , which was supposed to benefit the sick and blind in need of support as well as animal welfare. The foundation existed until 2007.

Honors

In 1952 Lentjes received the Cross of Merit (Steckkreuz) of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Over the years Ferdinand Lentjes has been honored as namesake several times:

  • In Duisburg Zoo one lived from 1975 beluga whale named "Ferdinand" . The expedition on which the whale was caught was financed by the Ferdinand Lentjes Foundation. In 2004 the whale was given to SeaWorld Park in San Diego .
  • In Düsseldorf- Hassels , a dormitory for disabled people financed by his foundation is named after Ferdinand Lentjes.
  • In Wellen , a street is named after Ferdinand Lentjes.
