Ferdinand M. Gerlach

Ferdinand M. Gerlach (born February 8, 1961 in Marsberg ) is a German physician , scientist and chairman of the Expert Council for the Assessment of Developments in the Health Care System .

After completing his doctorate and further training as a specialist in general medicine , Gerlach completed his habilitation in 1998. He initially worked at the Universities of Hanover and Kiel, and since 2004 as a university professor for general medicine and director of the Institute for General Medicine at the University of Frankfurt am Main .

Gerlach has been a member since 2007 and, since June 30, 2011, Deputy Chairman of the Expert Council for the Assessment of Developments in the Health Care System. In September 2012 he was appointed as the new chairman of the Advisory Council on the Assessment of Developments in the Health Care System.

Gerlach was a founding member and board member of the German Evidence-Based Medicine Network and the Patient Safety Alliance. From 2010 to 2016 he was President of the German Society for General Medicine and Family Medicine , after initially serving as its Vice-President from 2007.
