The Ferdinand Magellan Railcar is a saloon car based in the United States .

history

The vehicle, named after the Portuguese navigator , was built in 1928 by the Pullman Palace Car Company . The car was redesigned for Franklin D. Roosevelt 's presidential car in 1943 . From 1943 to 1958 he then served the President of the United States , which is why he also US Car. No. 1 is designated. The Ferdinand Magellan Railcar was also used by the following presidents, Harry S. Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower , and a few years later again briefly by Ronald Reagan .

The car has been on the National Register of Historic Places since August 1977 and has been a National Historic Landmark since February 4, 1985 . It is one of the over 40 National Historic Landmarks in Florida. Today the Ferdinand Magellan Railcar is on display at the Gold Coast Railroad Museum in Miami-Dade County , Florida .
