Ferdinand Camille Siebert (born February 26, 1904 in Kaysersberg , † January 7, 1985 in Mainz ) was a German historian .

Life

Siebert worked from 1930 to 1944 at the German Historical Institute in Rome (DHI).

He was also a temporary employee of the commander of the security police and the SD in Verona and head of the German Cultural Institute in Padua .

From 1950 to 1951 he was a lecturer in medieval history in Munich . From 1956 he was professor for modern history at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . In 1981 Siebert was one of the signatories of the Heidelberg Manifesto .

Siebert was scientific advisor at the "Chair for Middle and Modern History, Recent History". Professor Eberhard Kessel (1907–1986) held this chair from 1962 until his retirement in 1972.

In 1990, Siebert's widow presented the DHI with material for the second part of Siebert's memoirs for the years 1932–1943, which no longer came into being.
