The remote Lake is a small artificial lake south of the city Middlesboro in the Cumberland Mountains .

The lake covers around 60 hectares and has been supplying drinking water to Middlesboro since the late 19th century. He is from the Little Yellow Creek flowing through it. The dam and the northern part of the lake are in Bell County in Kentucky , the southern part extends to Claiborne County in the state of Tennessee .

Much of the Fern Lake catchment area is part of the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park . The park was enlarged by 16.28 km² in 2008 and 2009 at the instigation of Senator Mitch McConnell and Congressman Hal Rogers , but the lake itself is currently (2012) not part of the park.
