Fernand Boone (born August 1, 1934 in Bruges , † September 11, 2013 in Ghent ) was a Belgian football player . In 1967 the goalkeeper received the Golden Shoe as Belgium's footballer of the year.

Athletic career

Boone played at Dosko Sint-Kruis when he was young . In 1952 he moved to Club Bruges , where he initially played mainly in the second team and acted as a substitute behind Albert Carels . In 1955 he displaced the aging competitor between the posts, with the team trained by Norberto Höfling he rose again in 1959 to the top class. Initially, the club was placed there in the middle of the table, towards the end of the 1960s he was in the front third of the table. With good performances, Boone led the club to the runner-up behind RSC Anderlecht in 1967 , after which he made his debut in the Belgian national team and was named Belgium's footballer of the year. In 1968 and 1970 national titles followed with victories in the state cup.

1971 Boone left after 416 competitive games across the board at Club Bruges and joined KSV Roeselare . From 1962 to 1969 he was called up to the Belgian national team 20 times, but only appeared in eight international matches from 1967 to 1968, in which he himself remained goalless.

After a season he ended his active career and was the club's coach for the following three years. Boone later ran a coffee shop.
