Odilon "Lon" Polleunis (born May 1, 1943 in Sint-Truiden ) is a former Belgian football player who later became involved as a football coach . He is the son of Antoine "Toon" Polleunis (* 1921) and the nephew of Théodore "Dore" Polleunis (1917–1996), who were once also active as football players (also as strikers), but both of them were only active on very few occasions in the highest Belgian league.

Career

From 1962 to 1973 he played for VV St. Truiden . In 1973 he moved to RWD Molenbeek for three years , with whom he took part in a European competition every season and was Belgian champion in 1975. In the 1976/77 season he played for KSK Tongeren in the Belgian second division . In 1968 he was awarded the Golden Shoe as Belgian Footballer of the Year .

Polleunis played 22 international matches for the Belgian national team in a total of 29 calls , in which he scored ten goals. He made his debut on April 7, 1968 in the 2-1 victory of the Belgians in the friendly against the Netherlands in Amsterdam , in which he also scored his first goal for the national team. In the qualifiers for the 1970 World Cup , he scored a hat trick in a 6-1 win against Finland and two hits in a 3-0 win over Yugoslavia .

In 1970 he was in the squad for the 1970 World Cup in Mexico , where he was used in two games. At the European Championships in 1972 in his own country, he scored in the semi-final match against eventual European champions Germany to make it 1: 2.
